Like most modern pieces of software, OpenMPT allows you to have your file automatically saved while you work.

Backup

OpenMPT can automatically create backups of your piece every time you save it. You can set it to create any number of backups, so that you can restore to any point in your work. It's generally a good idea to specify a backup directory which is distinct from the directory you save your songs in. It's even better if you can put it on a physically separate drive.

Note: Creating backups can very rapidly fill up your hard drive. Remember to occassionally cull your backups!
